The Gift of Giving Life

This project has so many ways of blessing those who participate as well as me. I received a sweet message from a mama wanting to honor her daughter Maci who recently started her first moon cycle. I thought this was such an amazing idea and co-creating the images to honor girls at this time in their lives with Maci was wonderful. As she got ready, we spoke of the moon cycle being the ultimate gift from the universe as it allows women to then also procreate and give life. We talked about the huge responsibilities that come with all those choices and how to honor her body through the cycles. She wore hints of red and I gave her a lotus to work with as this is always a symbol of pure awakening. Maci was so sweet as we walked around and captured her on her journey  into womanhood. Thank you Ame for using this project as a means to honor her at this time. It was such a profound moment for me.

Alignment Leads to Bliss

Naima and I have been talking about doing a photo shoot for over a year. Life kept us busy and we finally came together to do it through Maui Goddess Project. I was so amazed by her many gifts and talents including massage, yoga, jewelry making and the beginnings of her life coaching offerings. We connected on so many levels and it was with ease & grace that we walked through the Rainbow Eucalyptus Forest followed by a wonderful trek up to a hidden waterfall. She drummed to the rhythm of the stream and stretched with strength as the waterfall fell behind her. I felt as if I was watching Cleopatra practice yoga in one of the most beautiful settings on the planet. The forest shined this beautiful angelic light on her as she danced in the trees. It is moments like this that remind me just how wonderful life is. Thank you Naima for showing me who you are. I am truly blessed having you a part of this project and a part of my life.

Let Us Always Remember to Play

I remember the first time I met Tanya at a preschool meeting thinking she had a sweet yet shy smile. We shared a bit about our children and she drifted in and out of the school yard quiet and reserved. It was so wonderful to get the opportunity to have her participate in the Maui Goddess Project years later. I was very excited to support her in all that she is doing. She has been offering Yoga classes in Haiku while educating folks on the wonderful Purium products and their benefits. We shared an amazing Green Drink Smoothie she made and I have to admit it was very light and delicious. This session was so great because I really got to know the funny, silly and lighthearted side of Tanya I had never known before. We giggled a bunch as we tripped over loose rocks getting photos and she had hilarious funny faces she made at the camera. The day was very joyful and it opened both of us up. I have to thank her for allowing me to see this side of her as it reminded me to be playful and light in all that I do.

Calling in the Queen’s Love

It was so special to get a day with my dear friend Rachel who was visiting us from Oakland, California. She is an amazing photographer as well and she was more than willing to support the Maui Goddess Project by being my goddess for the day. I wanted to take her somewhere off the beaten path so I made a connection or two and we found ourselves at the Queen’s Pools. The water was rushing a bit as we skirted along the side of what used to be a more gently flowing stream. The energy was strong but the pools and waterfalls were definitely fit for a Queen. Rachel glowed in the jungle light and her adventurous spirit was a perfect fit for the trek we did together. We are blessed to have her in our lives and her radiance shined through the photos that day.

I am Blessed by the Children

As I edit all of the amazing Maui Goddess Project sessions, I usually have a small audience of one very loyal fan…my five year old daughter, Isis Rose. She loves hearing about where I go and who I photograph. She loves looking at all the photos and watches as I blog. She has been asking me to give her a photo session in Iao Valley inspired by Yako’s Goddess Session. She then talked to her closest friend and they both approached on Easter Sunday at a party we attended. I told them I would and sure enough it all came to fruition. I picked them all up from school the other afternoon and the girls immediately asked for their Goddess Session together. We brainstormed on what they wanted to honor in each other and on the earth. They decided on looking at all the flowers on own property, picking a few and leaving them for the fairies in our Fairy Forest. It was one of my favorite sessions yet as they led me through our three acres and were so authentic with each other and with me. I am so honored to show the magic they created with very little help from me other than clicking my camera.

She is One with All

The Maui Goddess Project brings wonderful women into my life and it also gives me a chance to honor those who have been there watching me birth this from its beginning. Winsome is one of these amazing women who embodies so much vibrant energy around everything she does. She is such an inspiration and I got the opportunity to hang out with her on the farm she works on capturing the beauty she has created there. She is a huge supporter of Korean Natural Farming techniques where she makes her own “teas” that feed the plants as well as creating her own inoculated soils. Her garden is very healthy and diverse with yummy kale and flowers sprinkled around. I checked out the Tiny House she helped to build out of all recycled materials. We said hello to her horse friend down the road and ended to session with a little BowSpring Yoga. I mean…WoW! What a gift to the universe this girl is. We are also putting imagery together for a 13 Moons Calendar so keep your eyes peeled for that. Thank you Winsome for being a part of my life and truly doing the work to help the community, the island and Mother Earth.

Fire in the Mist

It ended up being a pretty rainy morning when Jessica Bella and I met for her Maui Goddess Session. She is a woman of some many talents and we wanted to highlight her love of nature, dance and fire….so the rain was not working for us. We decided to drive up to Poli Poli instead and as the mist rolled in and out of the trees, she was able let go and enjoy all of the surroundings. The huge Eucalyptus trees hugged us as she saged and cleansed her energy. It was a beautiful opening ceremony for both of us and we hiked on into the forest. We found a sweet opening where she danced with fire, played with butterflies, laid on trees and pranced in the grass. Thank you Jessica Bella for surrendering and allowing me to see how beautiful and powerful you truly are.

Stream Cleansing

Meeting with Celeste was an incredibly peaceful experience as we decided to walk into the fresh waters in Honopou Valley. She is an angel of the stones and brought beautiful crystals as an offering to the valley and bathed them in the stream. We shared a moment of prayer as she read about The Goddess Gaia and we sat taking in the breeze. We gave jacaradana flowers to the waters and connected about motherhood, self-identity and our passions. She is such a kindhearted woman who makes amazing crystal jewelry and has quite a collection of other gems and stones. Thank you Celeste for opening your heart to the Maui Goddess Project and enjoying a beautiful day at Flat Rock with me

The Sacred Waters

Entering into Iao Valley is like stepping into the birthplace of the island. Yako and I knew we would exchange our energy in the sacred waters there for her Goddess Session. We found a place to go upstream and as soon as we reached the river, I saw that this place was Yako’s home. Her beauty began to emerge with every step and once she cleansed under the waterfall her youthful nature came through. There were many times that I stopped and admired how much the sacred waters activated her and transformed our energy. Yako and I came out changed, empowered women. Thank you Yako for the opportunity to capture your essence and youthful beauty within.

With a Djembe in Her Hand

The beauty of this project is seeing a woman go from her daily role and transform into a whole different woman right before my eyes. This is Angela and we have had the sweetest mama friendship one could ask for. Our daughter’s brought us together and we usually catch up quickly during play dates and early morning drop offs. I was so honored to offer the Goddess Session to her and witnessed this other amazing story she holds in her heart. With the winds of Kahikinui in her hair and a djembe drum in her hands, the way she held herself in front of me was that of a medicine woman… here to heal with her hands and the drum beat she holds in her heart. She danced hula in the soft grasses as they swayed together and I was so blessed to capture this essence of her.
